![]() Cube does some pretty good daisy-chaining on Parental Discretion Iz Advised. Even the best verses had typically simple 80s rhyme schemes, though. ![]() This probably could have been phrased "Which Ice Cube verse is the best?" There was a significant skill gap in the writing of Cube (and I know this includes verses delivered by other people) and everyone else, and it only widened after he left the group and continued to improve. This came out the year that I was born, and I bought the 2002 reissue. Check this album out if you haven’t, it’s important.Įdit: hijacking my comment to add on one of the documentaries I’ve seen about this Uprising: Hip Hop and the LA Riots Really interesting, hour long summary of this whole time period of rap and it’s impact in America’s cities. It took me a few years to see the power of the movement behind it. The first time I heard the opening track was when I had just started listening to rap as a kid, and I immediately loved it for the energy and chemistry in their music. They pretty much invented gangsta rap, and gave a voice and a spotlight to a generation that was being ignored. These guys were the voice of the rebellion during a very bloody period in LA, and the county as a whole. Concerts were shut down, turning into riots. ![]() This was only 30 years ago, and they were a group of black kids being threatened to be arrested for the music they were making. I wasn’t even alive when all of this is going on, but watching documentaries on this group and the LA Riots can shed some light on just how impactful this music was. This is obviously one of the most important projects to come out of hip hop, if not for its musical impact, then definitely for its social relevance.
